The Copyright Board of Canada has determined that SOCAN is entitled to an increase royalty for authors and composers when music is played on radio stations. Under the new tariff SOCAN is entitled to 3.2% of the first $1.25 million in advertising revenues and 4.4% of advertising revenues over and above this. Though SOCAN has stated that this should not have an impact on most small radio stations, Canadian commercial radio stations are seeking a judicial review.
